With the

5th EFORT besides from being the most important
meeting of scientists of the orthopaedic
field, was the largest conference ever hosted
in Rodos Palace.
The congress was organised
by the Hellenic Society of Orthopaedic Surgery
and Traumatology, with Professor P.N.Soucacos
at the chairmanship of the Organising Committee,
and expertly managed by the PCO "Triaena
Tours & Congress", while it took
place under the auspices of the President
of the Hellenic Republic, His Excellency Constantinos
Stefanopoulos and with the Mayor of Rhodes,
Mr George Yiannopoulos and the Prefector of
Dodecannese Mr Savvas Karayiannis as official
supporters.
From a scientific
standpoint within the Rhodes EFORT, orthopaedic
surgeons were presented with the latest and
most noteworthy developments in clinical practice
and surgery as well as in othopaedic research
introduced by the most eminent Greek and European
scientists of this field. One of the most
complete scientifc programmes including 874
free papaers, 750 posters, 26 Instructional
Course Lectures, 25 Symposia, 9 programmes
from the European Specialty societies and
6 technical symposia and Workshops, was available

part of the congress was the commercial exhibition
of technical products, with the largest ever
participation in the EFORT history of 100
specialised companies, extended over an area
3000 sq.m. within the Rodos Palace Hotel and
Convention Center.
An array of elegant social events complemented
the sessions of the congress of the 5th
EFORT, including a series of tours to the
archaeological sites of Rhodes and excursions
to the nearby islands, as well as two formal
gala dinners catered by Rodos Palace, at
the Sound and Light Gardens and the castle
of the Knights at the unique Medieval Town
of Rhodes. The highlight of the social programme
was the maginificant concert of the renowned
Greek composer Stamatis Spanoudakis at the
Jupiter Hall of Rodos Palace.
The host of the 5th EFORT in Greece proved
the scientific repute that the Hellenic
Orhopaedic Society enjoys within the European
Federation of orthopaedics and at the meantime
indicated the potential of the unique meeting
and hotel infrastructure suitable for large-scale
conferences that Rhodes has to offer. Moreover,
the successful conduct of the congress was
highly attributed to the knowledge and experience
of the Greek scientists and organisers as
well as to the effective combination of
conference facilities and expertise and
scenic and cultural features that render
Rhodes, a unique destination.
