RODOS PALACE

From a Promising Inauguration to the New Luxury Garden Suites Project.

During the 35 years of its existence, the Rodos Palace Resort Hotel and Convention Center has established a leading position in the Greek Hospitality Industry through a persistent policy of commitment to fine hospitality and of bracing an excellent reputation. To continue this trend of which we are so proud of today, large funds were generously spared on the redesign of our facilities, as a realisation of our intention to maintain an optimal standard of comfort desired by our highly demanding clientele and of our desire for Rodos Palace to follow its mission at the forefont of destinations for exceptional vacation trips and international conferences.

Herewith we present the highlights of its innovative development, from its initial inception to its current status, ones which can also be described as a History of Innovations in the Greek Hospitality Industry. During the early seventies, the spontaneous development of the Greek Hotel Industry demanded a pioneer approach, adapted to the changing aspirations of a constantly expanding clientele. Since Rhodes had already obtained universal attraction as a holiday resort, the need for a large and luxurious resort hotel emerging at that time induced the conception af an ambitious and daring plan. As an outcome, in 1973 a brand new ultra-modern tower building - almost twice the size of the legendary Colossus statue- was constructed on a privileged location covering 120,000 square meters, in the middle of Ialyssos Bay and within a short distance of the airport and the city of Rhodes.

1974 The Opening

The operation of the largest and most complete resort hotel in Greece became a reality. The Rodos Palace hotel opened its doors to the public and was immediately classified as “a luxury-5 star” establishment.

1977

The largest indoor heated pool of Olympic dimensions in Greece was created. The famous industrial firm Boeing provided the sun protective special glass used to cover the pool with a gigantic transparent perspex dome unique in Europe.

1979

A pioneering center for the convention and exhibition industry in Greece was developed. The Rodos Palace International Convention Center was the largest autonomous, purpose-built Convention Center in Greece with a capacity of 1500 delegates.

1988

The hotel's supreme consecration was in December of that year when the Rhodes EC Summit Meeting of European Heads of State was held. During the Summit the Rodos Palace was honoured to host six of the leaders. Over half million dollars was invested in renovations and the creation of six presidential suites of superb standards as the result of uncompromising insistence not just on opulence but rather on quality and style. Each Presidential suite had two entire floors at its disposal and a further twenty-five suites accommodated the leader's Secretaries of State and the VIP's of Foreign and Diplomatic Corps.

1992

A further multimillion dollar investment led to the expansion of the International Convention Center to an overall capacity of 4000 delegates in 20 meeting halls designed and equipped to meet the vigorous EU and IAPCO (International Association of Professional Convention Organizers) regulations, maintaining the Center's privilege of being the largest venue of its kind in Greece.

1993

The creation of the new 7-storey Executive VIP Wing embodying the Executive Tower was a concept of superior standards effectively accomplished by the Maurice Bailey Design Company. Following the addition of the Executive Wing, the Rodos Palace became the largest five-star resort hotel in Greece featuring such a diversity of accommodation facilities and services. Furthermore, the first digital system with Voice Mail in Greece, supplied by Northern Telecom, was installed, along with the finest, state-of-the art TV sets in all guestrooms, enabling guests to receive teletext information in 4 languages, view their bill, watch PAY TV movies and access the conference channel.

1998

The Western European Union Ministerial Meetings held exclusively in Rodos Palace required an extensive renovation of the Convention Center and the installation of the state-of-the art ISDN network with capability of teleconferencing.

2001 The Grand Renovation

After 2 years of elaborate design and intensive construction work the grand renovation of Rodos Palace integrating two major phases was successfully completed. After the completion of Phase I in year 2000, which included the entire refurbishment all the rooms and suites of the Main Tower, Phase II carried out in year 2001, resulted to the renovation of the majority of the public areas of the hotel, including :Main Entrance, Reception, Lobby, Main Bar, Outdoor Pools area, Pool Bar and Pool Restaurant.

This costly investment of approximately 3.5 billion drachmas ($8.5 million), undertaken under the supervision of “Stelios Dimou and Associates” interior designers, has definitely enriched the image of the deluxe property with newly-designed, state-of-the-art facilities.

2008 The New Luxury Garden & Pool VIP Suites

The New Rodos Palace Garden and Pool VIP Suites are the new exceptional concept in Rodos Palace hospitality. Nestled around colourful gardens embracing a river-lagoon, the collection of the 200 Garden Suites is an idyllic hideaway to relax in luxury and privacy located within a prestigious resort area and just 5 minutes from the vibrant city of Rhodes and the Medieval Town.

The New Garden Suites reflect the essence of resort life into the Rodos Palace world of fine hospitality.

The renovation programme also incorporated the radical rennovation of the main restaurants Ambrosia & Castellania. The famous restaurant 12 nissia, ex La Rotisserie, was redesigned in a new deluxe interior area and extended outdoors with a wooden deck lounge area offering a spectacular view of the lagoon and the hotel's gardens.
